The project outcome

We push the limits of the metal’s resistance and develop specific tooling. This box required close to 10 successive production operations, from stretching and shaping to the embossing that mimics a ball’s leather stitches. The brand name and logo are debossed, while additional information is screen-printed in black and white.

Created for the launch of the wiskey « Midleton Very Rare Forêt de Tronçais” by Midleton Very Rare (Irish Distillers, Pernod Ricard group), this box is produced in France, in the Jura Mountains. An exceptional piece, only 1400 will be sold this year.

The project outcome

This cabinet is made from fine oak from the Tronçais forest, the same wood as the casks in which the whiskey has matured. The design, both inside and out, highlights this exceptional wood from an eco-managed forest where natural regeneration and preservation of the ecosystem are important. On the outside, metal inlays highlight the natural beauty of wood grain. The opening reveals 3 panels enhanced by intricate laser engraving, that pay homage to the French woodland and its role in this whiskey’s story.

These Yves Saint Laurent coffrets are designed to contain a selection of the brand’s iconic skincare, make-up and perfume products in mini sizes. Available in five different formats, this new generation of coffrets conveys the brand’s characteristic premium codes while meeting the challenge of sustainable eco-packaging.

The projet outcome

Built around a rigid frame coated with Brossulin paper printed in matte black, these boxes mark the beginning of a new concept of cardboard trays. These deep trays incorporate cutout shapes and are clipped into their housing thanks to a slot system. They are then covered with the same paper, perfectly adapted to the products, guaranteeing a structure as solid as if they were made of plastic.They also feature a clever flap closure that holds the lid in place without the use of magnets. As for their decoration, the famous logo designed by Cassandre is either hot-stamped or made from gold-colored metal, applied by hand for a beautiful 3D effect.

Presented in a sumptuous box, the Belle Jeanne decanter (in reference to Jeanne Coutanseaux, the sister of founder, Joachim Coutanseaux, and a central figure in the history of the House) is a sensation. Designed as a display object, but also as a transport box, this high-end envelope, symbol of excellence and influence of French luxury, highlights this 5-liter bottle.

The project outcome

The 100% recycled and recyclable grey board construction, covered with white paper, combines luxury and eco-responsibility. The commitment is also social, as the factory is run entirely by women; also as a new tribute to Jeanne. The paper’s immaculate appearance refers to purity of the eaux-de-vie selected, while the golden hoops recall the hoops of the barrels. Upon opening, the sense of surprise continues with the revelation of a golden interior shimmering with radiant reflections, enveloping La Belle Jeanne like a luminous halo.

The project in question was a relaunch of Opland, a premium aquavit range designed to compete with cognac and single malt whiskies overseas. Opland recently celebrated its 150th birthday and has for many years been the favored aquavit brand for Norwegians. The relaunch incorporates three exciting new bottlings: two varieties of Edel, and one variety of the premium Single Cask. The Edel varieties were matured in either port or Madeira casks after spending four years in sherry oak casks; the Single Cask is a limited release of just 400 bottles.

With some fantastic designs in place from our collaborators at Stranger & Stranger, we set about producing three exciting luxury packs to showcase this exciting range. For all three packs, we utilized the same construction: a wrapped rigid board body with a tin lid and carton inner fitment. By using a radius edge rigid structure we were able to create a softer feel to the exterior of the pack; the rounded edges align perfectly with the lines of the tin lid.

The project outcome

To differentiate between the Edel and the Single Cask we utilized different wrappings and embellishments. For the Edel we wrapped the packs in white paper embellished with the Opland branding; to differentiate between the port and Madeira varieties, we added either a red or a green front label bearing the signature of Ivan Abrahamsen, product developer at Arcus. The Edel packs feature gold-colored lids with white paper inserts and a board base tray fitment wrapped in metallic paper.

For the Single Cask, we wrapped the pack in grey paper embossed with a subtle wood effect. Rose gold detailing was added in the form of a colored badge detail on the front of the pack, a copper-colored lid (with a paper insert color-matched to the wood effect wrapping), and further embellishments on the sides and top. The board base tray fitment in this pack is also wrapped in metallic paper. We are delighted with the finished result, which offers a fresh new take on the classic Opland look.

Our subsidiary company, Lucas Luxury, teamed up with Pond Design to redefine the Jameson packaging portfolio and attract new consumer groups to the already popular Irish whiskey brand. One of the key concerns modern consumers have is about the sustainability credentials of the companies they buy from.

This family pack was designed to hold four 50 ml miniatures of Jameson’s most popular whiskies: Caskmates, Black Barrel, Crested, and their standard Irish Whiskey. Aside from holding the bottles securely and displaying their labels clearly, there was one key goal: to make the pack environmentally friendly.

The project outcome

The finished pack was constructed from three eco-friendly materials: rigid greyboard, kraft paper, and one-color soy ink. Greyboard is made from 100% recycled material, while kraft paper is unbleached, easy to recycle, and biodegradable. Using soy ink, meanwhile, makes it easier to recycle the paper it is printed on.

We constructed the rectangular frame for the pack out of greyboard, then wrapped it in kraft paper. Each bottle sits in its own shallow recess, with the top held in a fitment in the lid of the pack. To access them, simply unclip the lid and lift it open. The final flourish is old brass-plated metal buttons on the sides, holding the lid closed.

Beaulieu Vineyard is one of the longest continually operating wineries in the Napa Valley. In 2008, over a century on from its founding, the vineyard opened a state-of-the-art new winemaking facility. Five years on, following this successful investment came a particularly fine vintage, which would go on to be labeled “BV Rarity”.

This exceptional 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon received 99 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate and is noted for its aromas of blackberry and dark chocolate. Each magnum bottle comes individually numbered, tissue-wrapped, and stored in a premium presentation box custom-manufactured by GPA Global.

The project outcome

The finished pack is comprised of a hinged wooden box with a charred veneer finish. Custom features include plated metal L hinges and an electroplated metal lock and keyhole. The exterior is accented with gold metal decals and a blind engraved logo. Inside, the bottle is held in an EVA fitment lined with red PU leather. Continuing the metallic accents, we used hot-stamped gold foil to add the Beaulieu Vineyard branding besides the bottle fitment. In the lid interior, a recess holds two items: a flavor notebook, and a small gold key, which can be used to lock and unlock the case. Only 150 of these special cases will be manufactured and sent out each year.

Sugarpill is a cosmetics brand that was founded by Amy Doan in 2010. Along with its bold pigments and quirky aesthetic, the brand is also celebrated for its cruelty-free and largely vegan product range. In advance of the brand’s 10th anniversary in 2020, Sugarpill approached GPA Global to request a special makeup container.

The brief was for a reusable clamshell box in the shape of a medicinal capsule – one of the recurring motifs of the Sugarpill brand. Inside would be an array of the brand’s products: loose eyeshadows, liquid lip colors, lip glosses, and a signature eyeshadow palette designed specially to celebrate their 10 years in the industry.

The project outcome

The finished pack has a rigid greyboard structure, measuring 18.25 x 8 x 2 inches, with a concealed paper hinge. We wrapped the exterior in pink paper, which we coated with soft-touch film and embellished with foils and spot UV. The lid is held shut with concealed magnets and lifts smoothly open using a small ribbon attachment on the front.

Inside, the Sugarpill products nestle snugly in an EVA fitment topped with a turquoise card. As with the exterior, we coated the card with soft-touch film and embellished it with spot UV and foils – in this case to border the makeup recesses, and mark out the lettering for the product names. The result is a fun and colorful pack with lasting value as a makeup container.

Le Bijou is a Swiss hotel chain that offers a unique twist on the standard hotel model. All of their establishments are modern luxury apartments, which combine the round-the-clock service of a hotel with the privacy and comfort of a self-catered space. Recently, the GPA Global team worked with the brand to create the contents and premium packaging for a unique gift set.

Our task was to produce a numbered key chain fob in solid copper and present it within a luxury gift box. The client was keen for the fob and its packaging to convey the spirit of the brand – uncomplicated luxury – and to complement Le Bijou’s existing stationery. This meant our team had to work doubly hard to craft the perfect brief and bring it to life.

The project outcome

This project began with the manufacture of the fob, a sleek copper square with rounded corners. We added the Le Bijou branding to the front and individually numbered the reverse. We also laser-etched a QR code onto the back of each fob – this will link the user to an app the hotel is in the process of creating. The next step was to craft the elegant packaging: a white box that opens to reveal a black fitment holding a complimentary bottle of champagne and a handwritten message from Le Bijou’s CEO.

The larger pack also contains a smaller white box, which splits in half to reveal the fob and two copper keychain attachments, all of which nestle in black fitments. The white paper that we used to wrap the boxes was embellished with gravure emboss to create a subtle textural effect. We also added the Le Bijou branding in copper foil, and a black ribbon attachment to lift open the exterior case. The client deemed this a great success and is poised to expand production in the future.

In 2019, Estée Lauder teamed up with fashion label Kith to create a custom-made skincare set housed in chic packaging. Now, the brands have teamed up once again to create another prized, limited edition collection: a makeup kit inspired by Estée Lauder’s original packaging and contained in a sleek Kith-branded acrylic case that doubles as a clutch.

The GPA team has worked with both brands in the past, so we were delighted to collaborate with them once again to manufacture the dual-purpose container for this project. The finished case (and its desirable contents) was created in time for International Women’s Day and was sold exclusively at the Kith and Estée Lauder counter inside Selfridges London.

The KITH x Estée Lauder project outcome

This pack’s structure is a simple hinged case constructed from acrylic panels. We printed onto these panels in translucent white. To ensure full coverage, we angle-jointed the acrylic panels at 45%, eliminating any joins, gaps, or ridges. Ultimately, we achieved a perfect, uninterrupted pattern across the case, which means you won’t find an unfinished logo anywhere!

Further external features include the electroplated metal clasp, which is held shut via hidden magnets. Inside, the case contains a white EVA fitment that holds the gold-encased makeup items. Because the pack is designed to double-up as a clutch when the makeup collection is removed, we also made sure to weigh the base down. This means that it can remain upright when opened, even with the makeup and fitment removed.

Don Papa is a premium rum label that launched in the Philippines back in 2011. The brand is based on the island of Negros, where it sources its “black gold” molasses from the locally grown sugarcane, later aging its rum in ex-American Bourbon oak barrels. Since 2015, the brand has run an annual art competition designed to showcase the work of up-and-coming Filipino artists.

In 2019, the winner of the art competition was Samuel Penaso of the Renaissance Gallery. His winning artwork, entitled “Botany”, was brought to life with acrylic on reflective stainless material and depicts the flora and fauna of Negros; Penaso’s intention was to illustrate “man’s co-existence and interdependence with plants and animals.” With the winning brief selected, Don Papa got in touch with the GPA team and asked us to manufacture a limited run of special edition tins.

The project outcome

With such a beautiful brief to work from, GPA was keen to properly showcase Penaso’s design. Simultaneously, we were conscious about creating a pack that would perform as a protective barrier around the bottle – in other words, it was a case of blending form with function. To ensure the perfect finish we collaborated closely with the client before we got to work, recommending a design that would deliver on every front.

The final pack is made from high-grade tin plate and has a simple cylinder structure. We created a matte silver background and overprinted it with gunmetal silver for the vector elements (Penaso’s beautiful illustrations of birds, plants and island scenery). As a striking contrast, we added the Don Papa branding in rich red, using deep emboss to create depth and texture. In total, we manufactured 80,000 units to be sold across the globe – and we’re delighted with every single one.

Between 2016 and 2018 Ardgowan distillery was involved in an unusual project involving polar explorer Robert Swan and his son Barney. The founding members of Ardgowan helped Swan to develop a zero-carbon device that he could use to melt snow and create drinking water during his trek, without impacting the surrounding environment.

In return, Swan carried a bottle of aged Ardgowan single malt with him on his journey. When he got back this well-traveled whisky was combined with other malts to create a commemorative blend named Expedition. Only 600 bottles of this exceptional whisky exist – one for each mile that Swan and his son walked to reach the South Pole.

The project outcome

When creating this special pack, designed by Clickworks, the GPA team’s aim was to try and evoke some of the excitement and adventure of the Swans’ polar expedition. The bottle itself is coated in metallic quartz to resemble an explorer’s flask, while the elegant oak holding case features recessed panels designed to evoke the look and feel of a packing crate. We laser etched and screen-printed onto the hinged oak box and created an embossed leather neck-tag embellished with metal studs and a silhouette of Antarctica. Inside the case, the bottle is held on a removable wooden plinth. On the interior of the door, the story of the Ardgowan Expedition has been etched into the wood – a reminder of the exceptional nature of this packaging project.

At 7,2000 feet Tierra Noble has the highest distillery in the world. The special agaves that go into this celebrated tequila are grown in the mountains of the Sierra del Tigre, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The result is a uniquely rich and aromatic flavor profile, which is further heightened by a slow distillation process and maturation in French and American oak barrels.

In recent years the Tierra Noble distillery has enhanced its branding and packaging to better reflect its artisanal approach. They contacted our Mexican team to request new packaging for their Exquisito Extra Añejo tequila that would not only highlight the beautiful details of the bottle, creating an eye-catching display on the shelf but offer an enhanced experience for the end-user.

The Glenlivet is a world-renowned, centuries-old whisky distillery celebrated for its smooth and fruity single malts and premium aged releases. Recently, the brand moved away from its traditional roots to launch Spectra, a digitally enhanced product comprised of three mystery malts held in an innovative pack.

The talented team at JDO Brand Design & Innovation dreamt up the design brief for this pack, which has a geometric structure and uses a QR code in place of tasting notes. With such an exciting brief to work from, the GPA Global team was delighted to come on board for development and manufacturing.

The project outcome

This pack is comprised of three separate prism compartments, which are hinged together and fold into a trapezoid shape. Each compartment is topped with a triangular lid, holds a different bottle of Spectra, and bears a unique panel printed with embellishments that nod to the flavor profile of the whisky within. By moving each compartment in turn, the consumer can reveal the three different panels on the flat side of the pack.

We wrapped the pack in black, soft-touch paper, and embellished with holographic foils, metallic inks, blind embossing and spot UV. We then added the most important detail: a QR code. Once scanned this code directs the consumer to a unique, multi-sensory digital experience, where they can learn the tasting notes and background of these mystery malts. It’s an experience that truly pushes the boundaries of traditional whisky tasting.

The Bacardi name is one of the best known and most beloved in the beers and spirits industry. Known around the globe for their white rum, the brand also produces a celebrated dark rum, Carta Negra, which is now available with a unique pack and speaker set.

The project outcome

This cleverly designed pack holds one bottle of Bacardi’s superior black rum and two high quality speakers which can be easily connected to a mobile device via a recess in the back. The container has been crafted with a premium recycled rigid board substructure and is wrapped in double hit four-colour graphic print art paper.

The wrapping is embellished with spot gloss graphic elements and an anti-scratch laminate to protect against wear-and-tear. The pack is held shut with two strong magnets and opens along the diagonal, with the bottle of rum held in one half and the speakers held opposite.

Inside, the Carta Negra nestles against a vivid, patterned red paper lining, and is held tightly in place in vacuum formed top and bottom fitments. The speakers and power pack are held in a specially printed flute platform and face outwards, hidden behind grills which blend perfectly with the pack graphics. To make use of the speakers, the user simply has to connect a mobile using the provided wire, storing their mobile in the recess at the back.

Rituals is a skincare and beauty brand inspired by the wisdom and traditions of ancient Asian cultures. With its “luxurious yet affordable” ethos, Rituals has become one of the most popular beauty brands on the globe. The company’s unique selling point is its Collections – groups of products inspired by different skincare and beauty rituals from the Asian continent.

The project outcome

The pack has a book-like structure, with a simple integrated hinge that allows the lid to be smoothly folded back. A key feature of the exterior is the teal paper wrapping. The paper – Marrs Green – is manufactured by G.F. Smith and was developed in 2017 after a competition to find the world’s favourite colour.

The Rituals team felt that this green-blue shade, which was inspired by a Scottish river, was perfect for the project: rich, inviting and evocative of the natural world. With such beautiful paper to work with, only one further detail was required for the exterior: gold foil wording which describes The Ritual of Karma ethos.

Though the exterior is beautiful, it’s upon lifting the lid that the real wonders of this limited edition pack are revealed. We fitted the case with a hidden sound chip that is activated upon opening, and begins to play sea sounds. In addition the fitment that holds the bottled invite was printed with a beautiful seascape. The image used for this fitment was specifically selected by the GPA team after the Rituals team struggled to find the right design.

The finishing touch is the gold foil wording on the inside of the flap, which invites the recipient to open up the bottle and learn the details of the exclusive Ibiza launch party.

Any whisky connoisseur worth their salt will know that many of the most in-demand single malts of recent years have come from so-called “ghost” distilleries – those which closed their doors years ago, but live on through remaining stock. Ladyburn is no exception to that rule.

Opened in Girvan by William Grant & Sons in 1966, Ladyburn only operated for nine years before it was completely dismantled. The very few Casks remaining when the distillery closed in 1975 were left to mature on site at Girvan, on the West Coast of Scotland, and in 2021 Malt Master Brian Kinsman selected a single exceptional cask to be released as Ladyburn 1966 Edition One Collection.

Inspired by the period of cultural change in the 1960s London, this special whisky comes housed in hand numbered bottles, bearing one of 11 rarely seen images taken by pioneering photographer David Bailey. The whisky itself has been aged for 54 years in single sherry butts, and swirls with the flavours of dried fruit, spice and oak.

To do justice to this special whisky and its must-have bottle, William Grant approached our team to request a bespoke white presentation case. Inspired by the sleek lines of classic 60s design and created with the same rigour as a piece of handcrafted furniture, this wooden case transcends the norms to reach new heights of luxury.

The pack is composed of sustainable subframe, spray-finished in alabaster-textured, UV-resistant paint and screen-printed with subtle text. Additional features include Brusso hinges and hidden magnets which keep the door securely closed.

Inside, the whisky is held in a leather-lined fitment, and easily released with a leather pull tab. The door holds a leather panel, debossed with text that tells the story behind this exceptional release. By pulling on a discreet tab, the user can lift the panel to reveal a concealed leather folio, which has been beautifully debossed and fitted with printed sheets detailing the story the Ladyburn distillery and offering further information on the artistic collaboration and the selected photographs.
