The biggest problem facing the world is that many of us think that fixing it is somebody else’s problem. We think a little differently at GPA.
Our relationship with the planet is a complicated one. We haven’t always got it right, but we’re committed to making progress each day, putting our best foot forward.
Keeping our planet, its people, and their communities at the heart of all our decision making.
We know that the next few years will be crucial – It’s not about knowing where we could be, it’s ensuring we get to where we must be.
Our Sustainability Report marks a significant milestone for the team at GPA Global. Last year we pushed ourselves, putting in extensive work along with our partners and suppliers, to understand more about our Scope 3 emissions.
Scope 3 emissions are important because they outline a business’s carbon footprint by looking at the sources they don’t control. This is everything in the supply chain from partner, people, activities, information, and resources.
We’re proud to say that we are currently accounting for 20% of our Scope 3 emissions from our suppliers with a goal to reach 50% by 2030.
2021 also saw us conduct product a Life Cycle Analysis with several clients. LCA’s arm us with unprecedented data on our packaging and what happens to it after it leaves our gates – providing us, and our clients, with clarity on what environmental impact a product has throughout its lifecycle
Now, striding into 2022, we have an unwavering focus on meeting our SDG related goals and targets. We’re learning as we go and sharing that knowledge with the industry.
Sustainability affects all of us and our stance is to be active, engaged, and accountable. We’re hoping that other companies will follow. Our position is this, unless we’re entirely open about where we are, we can’t be the ones to help drive forward the industry and promote lasting environmental and social change.
We are continually looking at new ways to strike the perfect balance between being client-centric and planet-centric. Whether that’s implementing sustainable materials into our manufacturing processes without increasing costs, or utilizing automation to make our workplaces safer and more environmentally friendly.
Optimizing our sustainability goals is an iterative process. A process which deserves a considered and malleable approach – if circumstances change, so do we. We are already working on a number of targets, but as we move forward this year, our team is already busy identifying a host of new goals to reach by the end of the decade.
